Current Issue: Data Centers
How Does This Impact You?
01
Are you on a fixed income? Or does your income vary?
Regardless of your type of income, having a data center in your community means your utility bills will increase. You will be paying more per month for electric and water.
02
Do you or do you not have preexisting health conditions?
If you do not have preexisting health conditions, living in proximity to a data center can prompt specific health problems. Those with certain preexisting conditions could have their symptoms or condition worsen.
03
Does your residence use well water/septic system? Or do you use city water/sewer system?
Living in proximity to data centers can cause water toxicity and wells to run dry. Those using city water are not better protected from water shortages either.
04
Do you or your kids go to school here or spend time here?
Current proposed data center sites in Vance County, NC are located near two (2) K-12 schools, three (3) churches, and a hospital. Kids are sensitive to high decibel sounds and emissions, making it more challenging to learn, concentrate, and maintain positive mental health.
05
Do you rent or own your home?
Property owners will suffer from higher property taxes (with potentially decreased property value). Landlords will pass on this tax increase to those who rent by increasing the price of rent.
06
Do you live in Vance County or the City of Henderson? Do you live in the surrounding area or state of NC?
The water consumption from data centers, alongside the noise, light, water, and soil pollution impacts residents' cost of living and quality of life. This region of NC depends on Kerr Lake for water. A continuous massive increase of water consumption for machine-based buildings will outweigh any positives and be detrimental to Vance County. These consequences will be felt across this region and the state of North Carolina.
